Thinking of buying a treadmill desk? Your top 10 questions answered.

A treadmill desk is not only a significant investment your health and well-being it is also a significant financial investment so you want to make sure that you are purchasing the right desk for you. We have compiled a list of the most asked questions put to us by people just like you!

  • Can you really walk and work?

Yes, once you find your rhythm it’s surprisingly easy how quickly you forget what your feet are doing. Speed is key, you’ll find that your walking and working pace won’t be the same as your normal walking pace.

  • Will I lose weight?

Although the treadmill desks are considered office furniture rather than fitness equipment, you’ll be replacing sedentary time with movement which, overtime may result in weight loss. All of the treadmills log how many calories you are burning, there is also a fitness app that you can download to help you keep track of your progress.

  • Are the treadmills noisy?

The treadmills have all been specifically designed for use in the office, and therefore are much quieter than those you would normally find in the gym. We would recommend that users wear soft soles on the treadmill to further reduce noise.

  • Are they safe for use in the office?

The treadmill desks have been designed as office equipment and therefore comply with UK health and safety laws. All machines are fitted with a safety cord, and limited to speeds of 4mph. We are also able to provide risk assessments and safety guidelines which you can adapt so that they are relevant to your office.

  • Do they require a lot of maintenance?

Each of the treadmill desks do require some basic maintenance such as belt alignment and belt lubrication, the frequency of the lubrication relates to the model that you have. Details can be found here. For maintenance demonstrations please click here

  • Do the treadmills have an incline option?

No, each of the treadmills are designed to improve posture. The bases are all flat so that they comply with office ergonomics.

  • What is the recommended amount of usage?

Each of the treadmills have been built for varying levels of usage so it is important that you select the treadmill that is suitable for your intended use. Components like motors, walking belts and bearings tend to wear over time. To support higher daily use we incorporate higher quality and of course more expensive components. Don't be concerned about occasionally walking more than the recommended daily use, but if you expect to do this on a regular basis you may want to consider a higher end model. All of our treadmill desks also come with a warranty guarantee.

  • I’m worried about over doing it and the treadmill desk causing me more pain, what is your recommended user use?

If you haven’t previously owned a treadmill desk we would recommend building up your use slowly to avoid injury and strain. It is important to remember that this is a new way of working for most, so you may feel some slight aching of muscles after a few days. However, once your body has adjusted these aches should go away. If you have any ongoing issues or pre-existing medical conditions, it is recommended that you consult a doctor.

  • I have a gym membership, so why do I need a treadmill desk?

Unfortunately, although you may lead a relatively fit and healthy lifestyle outside of the office, the effects of leading a sedentary life during working hours aren’t enough to combat the lasting side effects of sitting for more than the recommended 23 hours a week.

  • Are the treadmill desks easy to set up?

All of the treadmill desks come with a full user manual and the machines are very straightforward to set up. However, after you have set up your desk we would recommend checking the belt alignment with a spirit level. We also provide a delivery and installation service for £85 to give you confidence that your treadmill desk has been set up correctly.
